Day 64
March 12, 2009
Another 3 pounds lost for a total of 36, which works out to be an average of 4 pounds lost every week. While that’s a pound more a week than the average 3 pound weight loss per week the program suggests, my number will even out as I get closer to my goal weight and the weight loss begins to slow down. There will most certainly be weeks where I lose very little or nothing at all because even with our bodies in starvation mode, our bodies are really amazing organisms when it comes to survival and will hold onto any fat they can for as long as they can. I don’t know if this is true for others but whenever I reach a weight that I had landed and stayed on for a long period of time, that’s typically a weight that’s hard for me to break through. it’s as though my body feels the weight slipping and grabs onto familiar plateaus where it’s been before. You have to be prepared to hit weight loss walls where you’re doing “everything right” and the weight holds on. When that happens you just keep doing what you know to do and eventually the weight loss will begin moving again. I don’t understand the whole scientific and biological process of weight loss but I’m finding the whole process of fasting fascinating.
From the perspective of day 64 I can tell you that I’ve had far more days where this whole thing has been fairly effortless and easy than the few days when I’ve been jonsing to eat or craving certain foods. I know that’s hard to imagine when you think about someone not eating solid food (any food really) for this long but as I said, the body goes into starvation mode and believing there’s no food around, quits nagging you to eat. In addition the protein supplement shakes that I take 5 times a day meet all my nutritional needs and so I physically feel great. No lightheadness, exhaustion, or any of the other symptoms you’d have if you just stopped eating for a few days.
In other words, it’s all good.

64 days without solid food? wow! I just found this site and read this post (clicked the link from your other page). I am inclined to worry for your health with a liquid-only diet. I am glad you are doing well.

Deb–> Not to worry. It’s medically supervised and I’ve never felt better in my life…blood pressure, cholesterol levels, everything is at better than normal ranges. I know it’s hard to imagine that someone could be in good health doing this but I’m probably getting a more nutritional diet fasting than most folks get eating. But trust me, I look forward to eating again
