Lemon Harvest Cliff Hanger
December 3, 2009
I just knew the citrus stealer was going to use my week away in Mendocino as their golden opportunity to nab all the lemons while I was 120 miles away obsessing about them nabbing all the lemons. That’s why even before the car was completely unloaded I had my grabby stick in hand was headed toward the tree, leaving my wife muttering under her breath while carrying another suitcase into the house.
Imagine my childish child-like glee when I turned the corner to see this beautiful sight! Yellow lemons in of all places, our neighborhood lemon tree!!! While the lower half of the tree was void of any ripe fruit; reports having been passed along to me on the trek to the tree of a certain neighbor who shall remain nameless (you know who you are) walking toward their place just the day before with an armload of the tart treasures, there were still plenty bending the higher branches. All it took was a step ladder, a grabby stick, and enduring the cold glares of the neighbor who lives nearest the tree who was watching to be sure I didn’t attempt to pilfer from the branches dangling over her side of the fence (as if that makes them hers, oh please) and I ended up with a heaping bowl of perfectly beautiful lemons.
To find out what I did with my bounty of lemons, go here.
